MY STORY
Hi, I'm Dr. Charis Rooks, though most people just call me Doc.
If you've found your way here through one of my books, a speaking engagement, The ReWriteâ„¢, or simply while searching for hope, I'm grateful you're here.
I didn't arrive at this calling through ease. I arrived here through profound loss.
In 2023, I unexpectedly lost my mother. Then, just one year and nine months later, I lost my husband, Kent, my best friend, greatest encourager, and partner in life. In the middle of that heartbreak, when so much of life felt uncertain, God continued to speak. One word settled deeply in my heart:
Write.
What began as an act of obedience became something far greater. Out of my own grief, God birthed more than books. He birthed a mission.
Today, through Inspired Grace Ministries, I have the privilege of walking alongside men and women navigating the loss of a spouse, equipping churches and communities to care for grieving hearts, teaching God's Word, encouraging leaders, and helping writers faithfully steward the message He has placed within them.
That mission is carried out through four ministry expressions:
The ReWriteâ„¢
A Christ-centered community where men and women who have lost a spouse gather around the table for meaningful conversation, shared meals, biblical encouragement, genuine connection, and hope as they learn to live again after loss.
The Anchor
Faith-centered bereavement companioning and coaching, providing compassionate one-on-one support for those navigating the loss of a spouse.
Anchor & Grace Co.
Christ-centered books, Bible studies, journals, and practical resources created to encourage healing, strengthen faith, and inspire renewed purpose after the loss of a spouse.
Writing & Author Support
Encouragement, coaching, and publishing guidance for Christian writers who desire to faithfully steward the message God has placed on their hearts.
No matter what brought you here, my heart remains the same: to help people encounter Christ, grow in their faith, discover hope in the midst of grief, and take their next faithful step with purpose.
When I'm not writing, teaching, or serving others, you'll usually find me reading, writing Scripture by hand, mentoring doctoral students, playing the flute, or spending time with my daughters, my grandson, and our two fur babies, Cashew and Marshmallow.
I believe God is still writing stories of hope.
Yours included.
With love and blessings,
Dr. Charis M. Rooks
